For the first time since 1984, Rock and Miege will face in football

First faceoff: Sept. 28, 2018

Once a rivalry of the ages will be a game for the ages again, starting next year.

Bishop Miege and Rockhurst will renew its series on the gridiron, as the two area football powerhouses finalized a two-year contract on Monday.

The first meeting will be September 28, 2018, which will be Week 6 for Rockhurst, Week 5 for Bishop Miege. It's the first meeting since the series ran from 1957 to 1984, with Rockhurst holding a 21-6-1 record over Miege. The last meetings were in the first two years of Tony Severino's tenure at Rockhurst.

"It's going to be big," stated Bishop Miege head coach Jon Holmes. "A lot of kids at Miege and Rockhurst went to the same grade schools, and these were there two final choices for a high school. Way back when, this was the biggest game of the city. It should be great for everyone again and a couple great games."

The two schools looked to renew the rivalry, which has been years since the two played.

Miege has won three straight Kansas Class 4A titles, while Rockhurst finished Class 6 runner-up in 2014 and four Missouri state titles since 2000. Both the Stags and Hawklets look to be ranked in 810 Varsity's Top 25, released next week.

"It's something us and Rockhurst talked about, but with our league schedule, it didn't work out," Holmes said.

The location of the first game in the series hasn't been determined at this time.
