The William Chrisman football team struggled at every facet of the game in a 56-14 loss against Suburban Middle Six rival Staley Friday.

Staley started seven of its first eight drives inside its own 44 and five of them in Chrisman territory.

“Field position killed us all night,” Chrisman coach Matthew Perry said. “They did a great job with field position. Our punting was atrocious even though we work on it every day. There is not a lot you can say after a game like this other than we got to get better.”

Things started off on the wrong foot for the Bears when they ran a halfback option pass on the opening play from scrimmage. It resulted in an interception as Uriah Aleshire’s throw was picked off by Landon Donaldson and returned to the Chrisman 34.

Although, Staley didn’t capitalize on the short field that time, it didn’t falter on the next go around. The Falcons took over at the 10-yard line after Kelvyn Mason run on a fake punt failed and resulted in a turnover on downs.

Jaden Moss scored on a 1-yard plunge to give the Falcons (5-0) a 7-0 lead. Chrisman got right back in it on the ensuing drive when Dawson Herl his Tre’Vaughn Sisco on a slant route, he juked a defender then took it 79 yards for the score to tie it.
