Blue Springs South wins third in row

After a rough first four games, Blue Springs South has turned things around the last few weeks.

With Friday’s 49-21 drubbing of visiting Lee’s Summit at Larry Stewart Memorial Stadium, the Jaguars improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Suburban Big Seven heading into next week’s crosstown battle with Blue Springs.

The Jaguars had won in previous weeks by scores of 50-7 and 49-16.

“We got a couple linebackers back; they’ve added a lot to our defense,” South coach Jon Oyler said, “and offensively we’ve been clicking.″

The offensive totals weren’t astounding, as Brody Parker completed 9 of 13 passes for 155 yards, Dakoda Kenig rushed for 78 yards on 13 carries and Austin Terry rushed for 45 yards and three touchdowns on 14 tries.

But the Jaguars didn’t have to put together many long drives, thanks to some stiff defense and Lee’s Summit’s struggles on offense and in the punting game. The Tigers (2-5, 0-4) were missing one of their two quarterbacks, Darrias Pearsall, due to injury and were guilty of eight penalties.

South’s first drive went to the Lee’s Summit 13 before Parker was intercepted in the end zone by Evan Sanders. But the Jaguars still struck first when Michael Muehlberger scooped up a fumble on the Tigers’ third snap and went 45 yards for a touchdown.
