Trojans fend off Liberty North for title

Park Hill had to hold off a Liberty North surge to take the Libert North Invitational title again.

The Eagles' furious fourth-quarter rally fell short and the Liberty North boys basketball team dropped the championship game of the Liberty North Invitational, 48-40, at the Liberty North Fieldhouse.  The game was a rematch of last year’s title game, also won by the Trojans.

Despite missing two starters, including Missouri State commit Ronnie Bell, Park Hill led, 25-14, at the half and 31-23 after three quarters.  North trimmed the lead to four and had a three-point attempt in the air with the chance to make it a one-point game in the final two minutes.

The Trojans, however, rebounded the missed attempt, hit their free throws in the final minute, and held on for the victory.  Tyson Cathy’s 14 points paced the Eagles, 3-1.

Liberty North returns to action Tuesday with a non-conference road game at Winnetonka. Park Hill will face Oak Park on Tuesday.
