Jordan Lathon had been waiting to get a big moment on the big stage this year. He definitely got it on Saturday night at the 810 Varsity Showcase.

After being saddled with foul trouble for most the game, Lathon scores 9 points in the final quarter to boost Grandview to a 58-53 comeback win over Blue Valley Northwest, the No. 1 team in Kansas Class 6A. The battle was a top 10 matchup in the 810 Varsity Top 25, with Grandview at No. 6, BV Northwest at No. 9.

Lathon returned from injury earlier in the month after missing most of December.

"It's great to be back and in a big game with my teammates, and us playing well together," said the Northwestern commit. "Everyone stepped up at the end and we got a big win tonight."

The Huskies, coming off a 17-point win over rival Blue Valley North the night before, took a 41-35 lead into the fourth quarter. But after two Huskie free throws, Lathon hit a three to pull Grandview to 41-38 with 7:32 left.

Mason Taylor drained a three to knot the score at 41-41 with 6:45 left. But a lay-in and a dunk by Northwest's Parker Braun put the Huskies back up, 45-42 with under six to go.

Grandview's Michael Nweke followed with a bank off the glass and a free throw for a 46-45 lead. Another Bulldog steal and layup put GHS up, 48-45 with 2:34 left.

After a Northwest turnover and timeout, Lathon then drove, hit the bucket and made the charity toss for a 51-45 lead with 2:11 left. But the Huskies Christian Bruan hit brother Parker for a lay-in with 1:48.

Taylor then hit a baseline three, countered by a Joseph Pleasant three for a 54-50 margin. Then Lathon hit two free throws for a 56-50 lead with 44 seconds left, and Northwest couldn't pull any closer than a late Sam Ward three.

The game was close throughout, after Grandview opened with an 18-10 lead early. But a Pleasant inside bucket, a Ward three and a Parker Braun offensive stickback highlighted a 9-0 run to start the second quarter. Meanwhile, GHS went on an 0-for-8 skid during the run.

Nweke netted a game-high 16 points for Grandview, while DeAndre Sorrells (14) and Lathon (11) reached double figures. Parker Braun (14 points), Pleasant (12), Christian Braun (11) and Ward (10) had a balanced attack for the Huskies.
