KU recruit Robinson-Earl, Free State highlight event

Kansas fans can root on two potential Jayhawks, then go watch the Jayhawks of today face West Virginia on Saturday.

The inaugural 810 Varsity Sunflower Showcase will tip on Saturday, February 17 at Free State High School. The marquee matchup - Bishop Miege vs Free State, features two potential Jayhawks ahead.

The Firebirds (11-3 overall) are ranked No. 2 in Kansas Class 6A, while Bishop Miege (14-2) sits atop the Kansas Class 4A rankings. The two face off at 1:30 pm on Saturday at Free State High School.

Most notably, Miege features junior 6-foot-8 power forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, ranked No. 15 nationally in the 2019 class by Rivals, and offered by Kansas among 10+ Division I offers. Robinson-Earl's father, Lester Earl, played at Kansas from 1997-2000.

Robinson-Earl could be teammates ahead with Free State senior guard Garrett Luinstra, who has accepted a walk-on offer with the Jayhawks.

"The Free State vs Miege game could be a glimpse two potential state champions," said 810 Varsity's Chad Rader. "The matchup also has some nice possible storylines and of course, a big-time Kansas recruit in Lawrence."

The original tipoff time was set for February 10, but projected snowy and icy conditions resulted in a postponement to this weekend. (Due to the makeup date being close to MSHSAA districts, Missouri teams elected not to play in the makeup date. Also, with other schools having to play 4 games in 7 dates or already previously played, the remainder of the Kansas schools weren't able to make the date work.)

But area fans can still watch  two possible Kansas future players, then head to Allen Fieldhouse for the 5 pm clash of KU vs West Virginia

---.

810 Varsity looks to grow the February event.

"There has been a lot of interest from schools around Kansas and the region, and of course, there's always a high possibility to bring other Kansas recruits and commits to the event."

In fact, the event looked to have KU-committed guard Markese Jacobs vs Sunrise Academy, with two KU-offered recruits but scheduling didn't quite work out with Jacobs transferring from Uplift (IL) to Hillcrest Prep - then back to Uplift in the fall.
