Oak Park star announces in front of students, media

The meteoric rise of Oak Park senior star Ochai Abaji reached its apex on Thursday afternoon.

Abaji, averaging nearly 28 ppg and 10 rebounds for the Northmen, exploded to become Kansas City's undoubted Player of the Year in 2018. In the past two weeks, the 6-foot-5 forward has landed Division I offers from Oregon, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin and then the big one, Kansas, last week.

He capped his accelerated recruitment from 0 major offers 10 days ago, to announcing his decision on Thursday afternoon with family, coaches, Oak Park students and media.

Kansas.

Not bad for just holding one offer from UMKC through the holidays.

Agbaji posted eye-popping numbers as a junior: 23.6 ppg and 5.6 rebounds, then improved further playing during the summer for MoKan Elite on Nike's EYBL circuit.

But it wasn't until January that Agbaji wasn't flying under the radar anymore, and his overall game was taken notice - particularly with Kansas head coach Bill Self and Larry Brown attending a 29-point, 14-rebound effort last week against Ruskin.
