Lee's Summit West impresses in battle of top 10 teams

A rough start led to a long night for Staley.

No. 10 Lee's Summit West laid out the No. 4 Falcons, 40-0, on Thursday night. Three early turnovers fueled the Titans to their fourth-straight win.

After an early touchdown drive by the Titans, West took advantage of a sack, resulting in a Dawson Park fumble. The ball caromed left, Andrew Kayhill scooped the ball around the Titan 40 and raced untouched to the end zone for a 13-0 lead.

Disaster struck Parks again later, as on an attempted pass, the ball was batted and came out before it was a forward pass. This time, Justin Benedetti sauntered into the end zone from 17 yards out, and suddenly, the Titans were rolling, 20-0, with 8:53 left before half.

Mylan Mitchell led previously unbeaten Staley with 73 rushing yards.

Lee's Summit West will face another top 10 foe in crosstown rival Lee's Summit North (3-2), while Staley does the same with No. 3 Liberty North (5-0). Both games can be seen on 810Varsity.com.
