Shawnee Mission East looked to snag its second straight win in the 810 Varsity Showcase events, but Keyren Spiller wound't let it happen.

Spiller, the 6-foot-4 junior forward for Center, helped lead a Yellowjacket second half surge for a 53-48 win over the Lancers. 

Shawnee Mission East jumped out an 8-0 lead, and 19-12 lead with 5:22 left in the first half. But Center rallied back for a 25-23 halftime lead with seven straight points to close the half, including a Keyon Spiller three to close the half.

The Lancers rebuilt a 39-32 edge with :36 left in the third period. But Keyren Spiller was fouled with no time remaining and hit both free throws.

The junior picked up where he left off in the fourth. A Pernell Barrett drive and a Spiller three knotted the game at 39-39 with 6:30 left in the game. After a Center free throw and a Guerchon Maxi three, Spiller hit a shot to put Center up 45-42.  Spiller finished with a game-high 28 points.

Preston Reynolds finished off an alley oop on an in-bounds for a 45-43 Lancer deficit. But Spiller hit a shot on the block and a driving hoop for a 50-45 lead with 1:38 left.

After both teams traded turnovers, East a layup attempt with under a minute left. Short of the bonus by three fouls, the Lancers tried fouling Center but the Yellowjackets ran off 10 and nine seconds between fouls to take the clock to 24 seconds. 

Nick Arensberg hit a baseline fadeway to cut the lead to 50-47 with :16 left, Keyren Spiller canned a free throw with :12 left to put the game at two possessions. Arensberg made one free thrown with :09.7 left, but Cameron Pickens sealed the deal with two charity tosses with seven ticks left.

Arensberg led the Lancers with 22 points, while Will Townsend added 11.
