Basehor-Linwood gave its fans extra bang for their buck over the last few days, and in turn, kept the Bobcat Invitational trophy at home.

For the second straight game, the Bobcats needed overtime to outlast a top 5 opponent, taking the title, 77-66, over Raytown South on Monday night in the tourney's championship game. BLHS had previously beat No. 4 Piper in the semis, 68-65, in overtime on a last-second Jordan Brown three-pointer.

But it wasn't any easier on Monday night, beating the No. 1 team in the 810 Varsity Top 25. Though it looked that way for three quarters against Ray South.

BLHS (9-2 overall) built a 15-point lead late in the third quarter, behind eight three-pointers from Brown and Connor Younger. But the Cardinals full-court press started producing turnovers and quick buckets, as well as leading scorer Younger sitting early in the fourth quarter with four fouls.

Ray South cut the lead to 54-49 before Younger - fresh off th bench - turned a near steal into a layup, and AJ Cooper followed with a three-pointer to push the lead to 57-49 with over two minutes left.

Ray South rallied with a three-pointer and pull-up at the free-throw line for a 60-54 deficit.  Basehor pushed the lead to 62-56 on a Corey Davila inside hoop. But Cann followed with four free throws - three on a foul outside - and Kobe Campbell picked off a BLHS pass and went coast-to-coast for a bucket, and a 62-62 tie. A BLHS off-balance attempt after a series of timeouts in the final :30 seconds rimmed off, sending the game to overtime.

From there, Basehor took control of the overtime. Younger dominated while staying out of foul trouble, hitting a three-pointer and a bucket out of the gates, then hitting six free throws to score 11 in overtime. As a team, BLHS went 10-for-10 in OT, and 16-for-16 in the second half.

"We were hanging on by our fingernails to that lead and in a way, lucky to get to overtime with their pressure," said BLHS head coach Mike McBride. "But our guys stayed composed and hit shots when needed. And we needed every free throw we got - that was huge for us."

Younger led all scorers with 32 points, while Brown added 28. The duo combined for nine trifectas. Davila finished with 12.

Cann paced Raytown South with 25 points, while Campbell added 20.
