Love scores 29, Cadets top Bulldogs, 62-50

While the crowd at the 810 Varsity Showcase came to watch a marquee matchup featuring McDonald's All-American Caleb Love, it was Mikhail Abdul-Hamid who shot like one himself.

Abudl-Hamid, a sophomore reserve for CBC, hit three straight three-pointers at the start of the second quarter to help break open the touted faceoff with defending Class 4 champ Grandview. The Bulldogs, No. 4 in Class 4, were tied 14-14 with CBC after the first quarter, but a three by Abdul-Hamid, a trifecta from Robert Martin and two more three's by Abdul-Hamid pushed CBC quickly to a 26-16 lead with 4:33 left in the second quarter.

From there, Grandview didn't draw closer than nine in the second half, as CBC took a 62-50 win in the seventh annual event, held Saturday at Lee's Summit High School.

As for Love, a North Carolina commit, he still dazzled with 29 points, including three three-pointers, and a 12-for-12 effort from the free-throw line. A breakaway reverse dunk and a fadeaway three from Love helped the Cadets to a 14-4 margin with 2:33 left in the first quarter. But Grandview rallied behind six straight points from heralded 6-foot-6 sophomore Taj Manning, including a stickback at the horn for a 14-14 tie.

Manning led Grandview with 20 points, while Reggie Morris added 14.
