If at first you don't succeed...

The 810 Varsity Showcase, Session I will be held this Saturday, February 15 at Avila. Yeah, Session I is after Session II - held two weeks ago at Lee's Summit - but due to weather postponing the first attempt originally scheduled at St. Thomas Aquinas on January 11.

With the postponement, the event will be shortened to three games (as teams made up the games separately or elected to not make up the game).

But the game will feature the Metro's leading scorer, and one of the top matchups of Kansas vs Missouri teams. And four teams ranked in the 810 Varsity Top 25.

"Avila University is a great location to watch games, and in a way, its great that 810 Varsity will get to keep the string going of having an event at the Mabee Center," said 810 Varsity's Chad Rader. 

The lineup for Saturday is:

12 pm: No. 22 Ottawa vs Schlagle
1:30 pm: No. 21 University Academy vs Lincoln Prep
3 pm: No. 3 Blue Valley North vs No. 7 Raytown South

The marquee game is Blue Valley North - with just two losses this season to rival BV Northwest - playing well, while No. 7 Raytown South is a favorite to make a run to the Class 4 title game, with narrow losses to top 10 foes, including two losses in overtime each to Basehor-Linwood and Raytown.

The Metro's leading scorer - University Academy's Stevie Strong - is pouring in 31 ppg. The junior eclipsed the 50-point barrier once this season and could be a threat to break Michael Porter Jr's single-game mark of 39 points in an 810 Varsity event.
