DRISKELL REGION

About Eric Driskell:
Driskell was a graduate of Blue Valley, and returned to coach his alma mater in 2010. Driskell won the Kansas Class 5A state championship in his first season as head coach. He also won the state title in 2013, as well as three other state runner-ups, including the last two Class 6A title games in 2015 and 2016. Overall, Blue Valley amassed a 71-18 record and five title game appearances in the seven seasons under Driskell.
Driskell sadly passed away at 43, due to a brain aneurysm  in 2017.

1. Staley (2011) v 9. Blue Springs South (2011)

First Round Results:
Staley pitched left and right, and rolled through Tonganoxie, 56-7. Trent Hosick and Morgan Steward each trotted for 200+ yards in the romp.
Blue Springs South clamped down on Fort Osage for a 34-10 victory to move onto the second round. Steve Sullivan ran for 127 yards and two scores in the win.

Staley – 2011

The Fred Bouchard building of the Staley football program reached its culmination with an undefeated season and first state title. The playoffs had its thrillers, from the 7-6 win over Fort Osage, followed by the game of the decade, a 76-70 4 OT win over Lee’s Summit West. QB Trent Hosick was a Player of the Year finalist with 1,422 passing yards and 10 TDs, and a whopping 2,054 rushing yards and 31 TDs. Blue Springs South - 2011
Record: 12-2
Missouri Class 6 State Champions

Senior Connor Harris did just about everything with 1,402 passing yards and 14 TDs, 951 rushing and 14 TDs as well as the kicker. The Jags won two thrillers over Francis Howell, 28-21, and CBC, 40-37, to win the title, the second at BSS for Greg Oder.

4. LS West (2011) vs 5. Blue Valley (2010)

First Round Results;
Lee's Summit West offense was too much early with a couple quick TD passes from Luke Knott. The Aquinas (2017) run-first attack couldn't come back in a 31-14 loss.
Blue Valley (2010) did a little of everything on offense, the defense held AJ Taylor to 84 yards en route to a 28-17 victory.

Lee’s Summit West – 2011
Record: 12-2
Missouri Class 5 Semifinals

The Titans loaded lineup lost only to eventual Class 6 state champ Blue Springs South before an inevitable clash with Staley. The semifinal matchup turned out to be the game of the decade, with the Falcons outlasting West, 76-70 in 4 OTs. OL Evan Boehm became the first offensive lineman to win the Simone Award, before moving onward to Mizzou and eventually the NFL. QB Luke Knott went onto Iowa State, and targeted future NBA player Shaq Harrison at WR. LB Nick Ramirez helped anchor the D.

Blue Valley – 2010
Record: 12-1
Kansas Class 5A State Champions

Eric Driskell squelched any concerns of replacing Steve Rampy as head coach, simply winning the state title in his first year. It wasn’t until Week 6 before an opponent scored double digits. Meanwhile, QB Kyle Zimmerman and RB Justin Fulks helped lead the offense. BV avenged its lone loss during the season to Gardner-Edgerton, by beating Bubba Starling and the Blazers in a 45-42 semifinal classic before BV’s 35-14 win over Bishop Carroll in the championship game.

3. Olathe North (2009) vs 6. Odessa (2019)

First Round Results;
Olathe North (2009) was led by James Franklin wih TD runs of 63, 53, 27 and 14 yards to a monster 328-yard, 4 TD day in a 42-20 win over SM East (2013).
Odessa didn't register its usual blowout, but still won, 28-20, over Louisburg. Josey Meierarand connected with Eliyh D'obron late to seal the victory.

Olathe North – 2009
Record: 13-0
Kansas Class 6A State Champions
The Eagles dynasty came to a close with another state title, this one under Pete Flood. RB James Franklin ran past everyone with 2,803 yards and 31 TDs to win the Simone Award, including 269 yards and 3 TDs in the championship game vs Wichita Heights. O-North averaged outscoring foes, 42-13.

Odessa – 2019
Record: 15-0
Missouri Class 3 State Champions

The Bulldogs averaged 49.5 points per game, while holding regular season foes under 8 ppg. RB Luke Malizzi piled up 2,240 yards and 30 TDs, and QB Josey Meierarend won the Fontana Award with 2,56 passing yards, 37 TDs to just 4 INTs.

2. Blue Springs (2012) vs 7. Mill Valley (2016)

First-Round Results:
Mill Valley halted the Oak Grove (2014) running game in check, with Joel Donn and Dylan Smith notching 10+ tackles to hold the Panthers to just 154 on the ground, and 212 total yards in a 34-14 win.
Blue Springs (2012) had no problem with Eudora (2012), as Dalvin Warmack and Darrius Shepherd each scored 2 TDs. An Elijah Lee INT return on a batdown at the line results in a score too, in a 56-7 laugher.

Blue Springs – 2012
Record: 12-1
Missouri Class 6 State Champions

The Wildcats started arguably the best two-year run in the decade with the first of two successive Class 6 titles. Aside from a 35-28 OT loss to Lee’s Summit West, the Wildcats escaped a 14-11 game vs Rockhurst in the playoffs. BSHS crushed in the final two playoff games by a combined 84-10 score. RB Dalvin Warmack won the first of two Simone awards with 2,294 rushing yards and 39 TDs, while Darrius Shepherd (957 rec yards, 9 TDs). Future NFLer Elijah Lee and DB Kaleb Prewett led the D.

Cameron Young also rushed for 1,546, as the Jags endured a four-game swoon to Blue Valley, Aquinas, BV North and Miege, then won out, including a 1-point win over Aquinas and the 35-34 2OT thriller vs Goddard for the title.
