RHS takes off from word go in 52-0 romp

It took only 14 seconds for Raytown to start off their rivalry game on the right foot.

A 94-yard touchdown return off the opening kickoff by Zahmari Gary began a 52-point barrage in the first half for the Bluejays. RHS (1-1) rolled on to a 52-8 win over crosstown rival Raytown South.

Gary would lead all rushers as well with 105 yards on five carries including two more TD's on the ground.

Hot on his tail was sophomore running back Zander Samuels, who added 94 yards on six carries.

Raytown South (0-2) struggled at the offensive line, having a number of missed connections on snaps to QB Manny Burnett who had negative total yardage deep into the second quarter. The Cardinals did manage to add their first points of the year in the fourth quarter thanks to a 4-yard run by Quinton Rowell, along with a Burnett carry for a two-point conversion.

The game was moved to Thursday and moved to Staley High School to accommodate a larger crowd, and Raytown made it feel like home, totaling 326 total yards during the evening.

Ray South heads to Winnetonka for a Week 3 game, while the Bluejays also go on the road to Chrisman next Friday.
