Hawklets football season ends due to positive case

With Rockhurst on a roll in recent weeks, the only opponent the Hawklets couldn't overcome was COVID.

A positive case - unreported if a player, coach or staff member - has resulted in the KC MO health department determining that the season should cease with players in quarantine for 14 days. With Friday's matchup vs Joplin scheduled, the result will a forfeit of the first round of district play.

Rockhurst High School released the following statement:

Rockhurst head coach Kelly Donohoe also expressed his emotions with Spectrum Sports on Tuesday evening.

The Hawklets, in its first year under Donohoe as head coach, had won 4 of its last 5 games, including a 42-20 win at Donohoe's former school, Blue Springs, on Friday. At this time, Blue Springs looks clear to play its game vs Park Hill.

Rockhurst finishes the season at 5-3, and had moved to No. 8 in the latest 810 Varsity Top 25, and 810 Varsity's pick to win Class 6, District 3.
