MIege's Verhulst, Staley's Windsor Earn Honors

810 Varsity and Children's Mercy Sports Medicine Center have partnered for a weekly Children’s Mercy Sports Medicine Center Metro Area High School Male and Female Student-Athlete Performance of the Week award! 

Nominations are due each week, by Monday at noon, and can be submitted online at https://www.childrensmercy.org/performanceoftheweek 

810 Varsity also will post weekly reminders on Twitter and at 810Varsity.com as well. 

On Monday afternoon, the selection committee will review the nominations and choose a weekly Male and Female winner. Then Tuesday, the winners will be announced on both the 810 Varsity and the Children’s Mercy Sports Medicine Center social media channels, as well as 810Varsity.com .

At the end of the year, a Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year will be selected, and each winner will be invited to be recognized on the field prior to a Sporting KC match at Children’s Mercy Park.

We are looking forward to a great year of high school sports in the KC Metro and wish everyone nothing but the best of luck!

MALE PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK - 1/28/2021

Jacob Windsor, Staley

Windsor finished an impressive 8-0 week, beating the No. 5 and No. 6 ranked wrestler in Missouri Class 4 126-pound class. The junior is ranked No. 4 in state, and owns a 24-3 record this season.

 

FEMALE PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK - 1/28/2021

Payton Verhulst, Bishop Miege

Verhulst has helped boost No. 1 Bishop Miege to 10-1 record and is a favorite to repeat as the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year, the honor she earned in 2019-20.

Verhulst, the No. 8 ranked recruit for the 2020 class by ESPN, has committed to Louisville and was named MVP for the 2019 USA Basketball Women's U16 National Team last year. The senior averaged 18 ppg, 7 rebounds, nearly 4 assists and 2.5 steals as a junior.
