Two-time Missouri Coach of Year takes Huskies helm

How does a program replace one of the top high school basketball coaches in Kansas City history? With another of the best coaches in the area.

Blue Valley Northwest will name Aaron Ihm as the head boys basketball coach of the Huskies program (pending school board approval). Ihm served as the head coach of Raytown South for the past six years, with five district titles, four Missouri Class 4 elite eights, two finals fours and the 2020 co-state championship.

In his six seasons, Ihm was named the Missouri State Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year twice, and boasted a 77% postseason winning percentage.

“Coach Ihm has a strong track record of building successful basketball programs,” said Blue Valley Northwest Athletic Director John Hilton in the school's release. “He is a family man who models to his student athletes how to be a great husband and father. We feel blessed to have found a high caliber basketball coach that already has experience taking over for a legendary coach, embracing traditions and putting his own stamp on a program. We are excited to start a new era for BVNW basketball and Coach Ihm is the right man to lead us into the new era.”

Ihm will take the helm as the fourth coach in BV Northwest's history, succeeding Ed Fritz who took the Huskies to eight state title game appearances, and five state titles in the last 10 years.
