Top 50 recruit in 2022 opts to stay home, relationships

Aidan Shaw made a "hard but easy decision" on Friday when committing to play colllegiately. So easy that the Shaws won't have to change their wardrobe or mascot.

Shaw announced in front of a packed crowd in the Blue Valley High library that he will be playing next year for Mizzou. Blue Valley also dons black and gold and is named the Tigers.

"It's been a hard but easy decision," Shaw recounted of the process. Shaw told CBS Sports during the online announcement that he was opting to go with whom had been there all the way since he was a freshman.

"It started off with camps when I was in 9th grade. I went to a camp of theirs in ninth grade and was the first time seeing them. (Mizzou) stayed in contact with many, many conversations and was about building relationships."

The 6-foot-8 forward has starred at Blue Valley, posting 19.6 ppg, 7.7 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game. Shaw also played with MoKan Elite during the grassroots season, and feels that despite his height and shot-blocking prowess, he will be playing on the permiter at MU, as he drained 52 three-pointers in his junior season.

"I see myself as a shooting guard or a 2 or 3. I really can do it all. I see myself as an all-round player... But I'm ready to come out there and work as hard as possible. Anything worth accomplishing in life, you have to work to get."

Shaw narrowed his list to Mizzou, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Iowa and Maryland. But in the end, his relationship with head coach Cuonzo Martin weighed a lot.

"He's a great coach and a straight forward guy. He's kept friends with me and great conversations not just about basketball, but about being a man and more."

With the commitment concluded, Shaw can focus on the upcoming season in his senior campaign.
