810 Varsity selected its all-showcase boys team for 810 Varsity Showcase 24, held Saturday, December 18 at Shawnee Mission Northwest.

Most Outstanding Player

Demare Smith, SM Northwest

The nightcap was a close game – for about a quarter. Then the senior guard started to torch Park Hill South from the outside, and got out and running, and broke down the Panther defense with penetration for an eventual game-high 25 points, including three three-pointers and 8 of 10 from the line.

Jaron Briggs, Piper

The senior forward helped lead the Pirates to a 68-51 blowout win over Shawnee Mission North. Briggs led the way with 19 points, including 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Briggs now averages 21.7 ppg.

Owen Pyle, McPherson

Will McPherson ever run out of Pyles? Owen certainly made his mark with a game-high and career-best 18 points, including seven in the fourth quarter. The six-foot sophomore guard drained four three-pointers and has many big nights ahead of him in his Bullpup career.

Sam Somerhalder, St. James Academy

The 6-foot-7 senior forward did about everything in his power to keep St. James toe-to-toe with North Kansas City, scoring a game-high 24 points in a 63-56 loss. Somerhalder averages just over 19 ppg and 6.5 rebounds for the year.
