This should be no surprise in 2022: Raymore-Peculiar will be good – again.

The Panthers, who have amassed a 30-8 record in the past three seasons with two trips to the state title game and one championship, should be one of the top Missouri Class 6 teams this season.

“As always, we are excited for the upcoming season.  We feel great about the experience we return on the offensive side of the ball,” said Sean Martin, who is 20-5 with the state title in his two years as head coach at Ray-Pec.
The offense will be loaded with playmakers, including one of the area’s top wide receivers in Jaidyn Doss. The 6-0, 190-pound senior earned the Otis Taylor Award for top wideout in 2020, compiled 758 total yards and eight touchdowns in 2021. Doss committed to Nebraska in June.

Another threat on the outside is Jaden Reddell, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior who led the Panthers with 548 yards and seven touchdowns. Reddell has received offers from Division I schools as well.

Seniors Gunner Elkins (5-foot-9, 160) and Victor Klote (6-foot-3, 210) look to step up with more playing time at receiver, while senior Brayden Copeland (6-foot-3, 200) aims to do the same at tight end.

Slinging the ball to the arsenal will be senior quarterback Zander Dombrowski. The 6-0, 180-pounder finished with 1,571 yards and 20 touchdowns a year ago.

Taking handoffs will be senior running back Thomas Fager (5-foot-10, 210), who rushed for around 500 yards and 100 yards receiving as a junior.

“Our offense returns a lot of experience in the skilled positions and some experience on the line.  I think we will be able to score a bunch of points,” Martin said.

Up front, senior Zach Mitchell (6-0, 260) returns as a three-year starter at guard, while junior David Ayers (6-foot-2, 240) lines up at the other guard after spot starts as a soph. Another spot starter as a sophomore – Hunter Perkins (6-foot-2, 235) – will step up as the starting center.

Across the line of scrimmage, two seniors bring experience in senior Taran Snyder (6-foot-5, 260) who started for Ray-Pec a year ago, and senior Logan Reed (6-foot-3, 260), a transfer from the D.C. area. Fellow MarQuise Fisher-Flippen (6-foot-2, 300) steps into a starting role for the Panthers.

“The key for us both on offense and defense will be the play our lines,” Martin analyzed. “Both the offensive and defensive lines set the tone for what you are able to do.”

In the middle of defense, Ray-Pec returns its top two tacklers in senior linebackers Jaylen Nevins (5-foot-10, 205) and Andrew Brokaw (6-0, 200). Junior Patrick Martin (6-foot-1, 190) will line up with the duo.

Junior Tanner Franklin (5-foot-8, 170) will head the secondary at strong safety, with junior Louben Wright (5-foot-11, 170) at cornerback.

“Defensively, we will need to gel quickly,” Martin forecasted. “I feel good about the kids we have, but there is no substitute for experience."
