In a game of heralded stars and state powers, Waukee and Blue Valley Northwest lived up to the hype in front of packed house at 810 Varsity Showcase 29.

Division I commits Omaha Biliew and Grant Stubblefield punched and counterpunched throughout the fifth and marquee game of the event. But it was the outside duo of Cooper Randall and Mason Costello who put the nails in the coffin for a 68-55 win for Waukee.

Waukee, the No. 3 team in Iowa Class 4A - and likely state champ - brought 2023 top 10 recruit and likely McDonald's All-American Omaha Biliew against last year's Kansas Class 6A runner-up Blue Valley Northwest.

The hype was well filled, as the 6-foot-8 Biliew opened the game with two three-pointers, drives and mid-range shots for 12 points in the first period. The Warriors held a lead of 6-8 points throughout most the first 2.5 quarters.

The Huskies kept within striking distance, and Stubblefield, the senior point guard committed to Nebraska-Omaha, stepped up as usual with his strong drives and shooting to pull BV Northwest to 41-39 at the end of the third. Stubblefield finished with 27 points to lead the Huskies.

But the Warriors, much more than just than the Iowa State Biliew, got hot from three in the fourth. Randall didn't score for three quarters, but opened the fourth off an offensive rebound with a three from the wing. Costello followed on the ensuing possession with a trifect from the key - his fourth three of the game.

On the next trip, Randall again connected from downtown by the Waukee bench for a 50-41 with 6:11 left. After a Northwest timeout, and a scoreless trip, guess who hit yet again - Randall for a three from the left wing and the game was over at 53-41 with 5:31, as Randall celebrated in front of the busload of Waukee fans and students cheering wildly.

From there, Biliew - who scored a game-high 28 points, went to work. The senior netted eight free throws and a bucket the rest of the way, and Waukee left Kansas with the win.

Costello - who hit his three-point run with three bombs in the second quarter - finished with 14, while Randall added 11. Dominic Matteoni finished with 18 for Blue Valley Northwest.
