Jacob Derritt picked to lead Stags program

With big shoes to fill at Bishop Miege, Jacob Derritt is ready to step into them and take the Stags forward.

Derritt has been named head boys basketball coach at Bishop Miege, following the retirement of long-time head coach Rick Zych. Zych led the Stags to seven state titles in his tenure.

But Derritt – who previously served as head coach at Summit Christian Academy and KIPP – is ready to take the reins.

"I'm excited and honored to be chosen to lead one of the top basketball programs in Kansas, and the region,” Derritt said. “The school's leadership, along with the tradition but vision ahead, made it a no-brainer to come to Bishop Miege."

Derritt also has coached in the spring in summer with MoKan and Marcus Denmon Elite, before now being the 17s coach for MPJ Elite (Michael Porter Jr) the past two years. Derritt also has been in the Eastern Kansas League as an assistant at St. Thomas Aquinas.

"You walk in the gym and see all the state title banners hanging. Know the players who've been here - Relaford. Robinson-Earl, Mitchell. The list goes on and on. And to follow a legend in Rick Zych. I'm excited to pick up the baton and carry on the winning championship tradition at Miege."
