Staley becomes first team to win five straight titles in Jewell Classic

The halftime speech by Staley head coach Chris Neff must've been one for the ages.

After holding a 27-26 lead at intermission in the championship game of the Nelson Division in the Jewell Classic, the Falcons laid it on the Hawklets for a 44-17 margin and a 71-43 win. With the title, Staley under Neff won its fifth straight championship - the only school to accomplish a five-peat in the event's 44 years.

"We've had a lot of great kids over the years with our program, but to win five straight in an event as long and hard as Jewell - it's just speak volumes of our kids and what they pass down to the next class," Neff stated.

Staley (7-3) shot the lights out in the second half, connecting on 14-of-22 - including 7-for-11 from three-point range - and a perfect 9-for-9 from the line.

Avian Webb scored 21 points, including four three's en route to being named the Most Valuable Player of the Nelson Division. KV Stone (14), Jackson Smith (11) and Tavian Tate (10) also broke double figures, as Staley drained 11 trifectas in the contest.

Rockhurst was led by Kevin Sullivan's 15 points.
