The first 810 Varsity Showcase of the calendar year may be hard to top for the remaining 359 days of 2024.

810 Varsity Showcase 33 will be held Saturday, January 6 at Blue Valley North, and will feature six of the top 10 in the 810 Varsity boys Top 25, and seven total teams in the rankings.

Highlighting the lineup will be a matchup of defending state champs - Missouri Class 6's Staley vs Kansas Class 6A's Blue Valley Northwest at 7 pm. The Huskies are ranked No. 2 in the Metro, while Staley is No. 5.

"It's rare to get a matchup of defending state champs at the top classes - and then each still having a lot of talent and may be in the state tournaments again," 810 Varsity's Chad Rader stated. 

Staley comes fresh off winning a Jewell Class record fifth-straight title this past weekend. 

Another team in the running for this year's Class 6 title will be No. 4 Lee's Summit West, taking on perennial tough and home team Blue Valley North at 8:30 pm.

Rounding out the premiere final three games will be No. 8 Mill Valley vs No. 6 North Kansas City at 5 pm, which also marks the return of Ed Fritz to a Blue Valley school district venue, where Fritz coached 19 years and won five state titles at Blue Valley Northwest.

Overall, the coaches in this Saturday's event have been to 36 final fours and won 12 state titles.

"It's quite a day of top programs and coaches - a great day to stay warm and watch hoops all day and night long," Rader added.

After a girls matchup of Pembroke Hill and Blue Valley Southwest tips off the day, No. 25 Piper and No. 21 Raytown South face off. No. 13 Blue Valley West takes on Hogan Prep, while No. 10 Olathe South takes on  Pembroke Hill.
