With stellar 2025 football/basketball standout Larry Porter of Raytown HS on a recruiting visit to Cincinnati to play football, for the weekend, that left Lewey with the chore of running the Spurs show and leading Don Weston’s club through the weekend. 2-2 for the event, not bad considering Sultan Mohammed from Blue Springs South was missing on Saturday night. Porter is 6’3” and Sully is 6’8”, the primary post presence on this club. So they are pretty big pieces to 2024 success for these Spurs.

Lewis is long and very strong with the versatility to play multiple positions. His ability to push the basketball and make plays at the rim is sensational. He is strong in the paint. And his guard skills are solid enough to be on D2 and D1 assistant coach radar screens in July. One of those five starters as underclassmen at Shawnee Mission Northwest with their 25-0 Class 6A state championship, joined this group in March. Van Collins averaged 12 ppg in the Cougars run for STATE, a 6’3” guard with toughness and skills.

Cameron Yows, Lee’s Summit 6’4” and Kordell Williams, Belton 5’11” give scoring skills to the KC Spurs for 2024. The KC Spurs 17s are 8-4 so far for the spring. When they learn how to guard and defend the rim as well as they dunk the basketball, they’ll have continued success. Lewis could be the key!

So this is Jan Handley’s ‘Batman & Robin’ and if they are playing well, this is a goodteam.. White is a left handed beast around the rim, if he was 4 to 6 inches taller, high D1s in America would be recruiting him. AC is a tough hombre as a lead point guard. Tough and fearless. Crafty at the rim. Great attitude.

OTHERS TO WATCH:
Donnovan Fonville, Park Hill 6’4” 170 is long and pretty bouncy at the rim. I love his upside. Max Orr, Blue Valley West 6’3” 175 is a really good shooter deep and a pretty good on-the-ball defender. Love his consistency. Tyler Schucknecht, Olathe East 6’9” 190 just needs to get stronger in the weight room this Spring/Summer. He’s a gymrat and a‘sponge’ for his coaches. Howard Chase, Liberty 6’0” is a really solid combo guard. He runs the show well. When this group executes Coach Handley’s stu , they are very di cult to beat.

Tisdel plays for Team Whitelaw, and Stevens plays for Team Washington and frankly, it all depends on which day you see them as to which one is better. Sunday afternoon, it was Team Washington knocking o the Marcus Denmon Elite team.

Stevens is built like a tight end, strong as an ox in the paint with a versatile inside-outside skill set. Very athletic with a tough mindset. Tisdel plays with a high basketball IQ. He is long and bouncy, a pretty good defender and pretty good handles. Probably has played more forward, as his skill package matures and improves, I see combo guard in his future. We’ll keep watching Team Whitelaw and Team Washington play the rest of the Spring to Memorial Day weekend.
