Trojans look for next step in 2024

Park Hill looks to get back on the winning side of the ledger ahead in 2024.

The Trojans return a blend of seniors and juniors looking to break through the .500 mark for the first time since 2019.

“Every year, we’re looking for improvement,” said Andy Sims, entering his fourth year as Park Hill’s head coach. “We may be young but the expectations remain the same.”

The Trojans will be starting fresh faces across the board offensively, starting with a battle at quarterback among two underclassmen – junior Zane Thomas and sophomore Riley Haney.

“There sometimes are intangibles that are a step behind a senior, but both have a chance to do good things once they get experience in varsity games,” Sims said.

Senior Fredrick Marshall will get most of the carries at running back, stepping up after waiting his turning on the junior varsity.

“He’s a good, strong kid, and a very capable running back, especially between the tackles but can catch it out of the backfield,” Sims commented. “Fredrick’s definitely a kid we’ll rely upon.”

The Trojans return a trio of receivers from a year ago in seniors Gage Dorrell (5-foot-8, 155) and Landen Julson (5-foot-11, 150), and junior Braylon Agee (6-foot-4, 190), who snared 22 balls for 221 yards and two scores a year ago. Dorrell (17 receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns) and Julson (162 yards) also got some time. Junior Kaiden Leonard also will join the fleet.

The offensive line will boast three returners in senior Tony Inge (6-foot-4, 260), a Northwest Missouri State commit at left tackle, as well as fellow senior Ethan Hall (5-foot-11, 230) at right guard and junior center Brian Odegaard.

Joining the trio will be junior left guard Brayden Morgan (6-0, 235) and a competition at right tackle in senior Grayson Holmes and junior Ethan Earwin.

“We’re confident that we’ll get everyone in the right spots and once our offense gets caught up with the defense, then we’ll be in good shape and ready for the playoffs,” Sims remarked.

Defensively, junior Dante Dixon will headline the defense after being named first-team all-Missouri Class 6 in 2023.

“Dante stabilizes things on defense, and has proven himself athletically to play some offense, and we need to get some mileage from him on the offensive side,” Sims remarked.

Fellow junior D.J. Bronson will line up at the other corner, while senior safeties Davion Seymour (5-foot-9, 155) and Davis Livingston (5-foot-11, 185) will patrol the secondary.

Linebackers will be manned by  senior Owen Keller and sophomore Louis Van Batavia on the outside, while juniors Sai’quan Copeland and Matt Aguirre anchor inside linebacker.

Returning starter Johan Were (6-foot-3, 230) anchors the line at defensive end, while junior Ja’Mare Bell lines up at the other end. Senior Jacob Conway will bolster the line at nose guard.

“We have a good mix or juniors that played last year and seniors that are out there, worked hard, put in the time and are chomping at the bit to have a good senior year,” Sims analyzed. “Half the battle is getting lined up correctly and putting in the work, and this group does both of those well.”

Junior Tegan Turner will toe kicks, while senior Anna Anderson handles onsides kick and placeholding duties.

“Tegan’s a solid kicker, and Anna is out there every day and a hard worker,” Sims stated.
