Nathan Baxter and Blue Valley Northwest had themselves a night on Friday.
The Huskies, ranked No. 12 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, ran past No. 22 Shawnee Mission Northwest, 35-7. Senior quarterback Nathan Baxter threw for two scores and ran for two touchdowns to lead the barrage.
Following a Cougar fumble to start the second quarter, Baxter connected with Trevor Garlington for a 36-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. On the ensuing drive, Baxter broke loose for a 50-yard touchdown run and a 14-0 margin at intermission.
Shawnee Mission Northwest (1-1) drew to 14-7 after an 80-yard touchdown run from junior Traimyre Woodruff. But the Huskies answered on a 55-yard touchdown scamper from Logan Waldorf for a 21-7 margin.
Baxter later found junior Ayden McGibboney for an 8-yard touchdown strike, then capped a scoring drive with a 1-yard keeper for a 35-7 romp.
The Huskies will take on St. James next week, while the Cougars will host Gardner-Edgerton.
