Saints Return Favor with OT win at Rockhurst

While the action scenes may not have been the same, St. Thomas Aquinas flipped the script against Rockhurst a year later.

The Saints, ranked No. 6 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, held off No. 3 Rockhurst, 14-13, in overtime. A year ago, Rockhurst surged back from a 28-0 deficit for a 45-44 win in overtime win at Aquinas.

This time, it was the Saints walking off as visitors with the one-point win.

Aquinas (6-0) scored first on a Cal Arndt six-yard touchdown reception with just 12 seconds left before the half.

The 7-0 lead held up throughout most of the game, until Rockhurst took over at its own 36 with 7:36 left in the game. The Hawklets methodically drove 64 yards on 15 plays, aided by three Saints penalties, before Pierce Fisher took a two-yard dive into the end zone with 1:06 left to knot the game at 7-7.

Aquinas drove to midfield before a 51-yard field goal attempt was blocked to conclude regulation.

In the overtime, the Saints faced a third-and-2 from the 17, then Arndt took an inside handoff through the right side and broke it for a touchdown, and a 14-7 lead.

Rockhurst (5-2) answered on a fourth-and-1, as Charlie Loose rolled to the left, flipped a high pass Beau Neuberger, who hauled in the pass, barged to the end zone and front-flipped over a defender for a 14-13 deficit. But a low snap resulted in a botched PAT, as Loose was forced to fire an incompletion into the end zone.
