No. 19 Liberty North 16, No. 8 Rockhurst 13
For the second straight season and third game in two years, Liberty North left Rockhurst feeling blue. Or Bleu on Friday.
Bleu Renfrow kicked a 30-yard game-winner as time expired for a 16-13 win over Rockhurst at Severino Field on Friday night. The senior kicker, one of the best in the region, toed three field goals in the contest.
The game was a rematch of last year's Missouri Class 6 semifinal game, which the Eagles won, 28-27, en route to its first state title. Liberty North has won four straight over Rockhurst in the last three seasons.
After two straight Renfrow field goals, including a 29-yarder with 7:19 left, for a 13-6 lead, Rockhurst found offensive life. The Hawklets mounted a 72-yard drive, capped by a Pierce Fisher run up the middle from 14 yards out for a 13-13 tie with 3:29 left. Fisher scored on a 2-yard touchdown plunge on Rockhurst's opening drive as well.
But Liberty North, 5-3 overall and No. 19 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, took over at its own 36-yard line and over 10 plays, plodded its way to the RHS 13 with just :02 left. On came Renfrow, who cooly booted the game-winner as time expired.
Liberty North will play at No. 16 Blue Springs next Friday, while Rockhurst travels to St. Louis to face SLUH.
Liberty 36, No. 22 Oak Park 13
Liberty took out its recent frustrations on Friday night, and Oak Park became the victim.
The Blue Jays, who dropped their last two games, rebounded with a 36-13 win against the Northmen. Senior Jaxon Hick ran for 190 yards and two touchdowns, and caught another score for Liberty. For the season, Hicks has rushed for 1,612 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Liberty (6-3) took a 17-6 lead after a 75-yard touchdown jaunt by Hicks to open the second period. But Oak Park (6-3) drew to 17-13 after Antonio Johnson hit Drew Clemens for a 19-yard touchdown pass with 8:35 until half.
A Lincoln Dwiggins 30-yard field goal pushed the lead at half to 20-13, then a Connor Hatfield 42-yard scoring strike to Hicks pushed the margin to 27-13 with 9:07 left in the third.
Liberty will play host to North Kansas City next Friday, while Oak Park will travel to Park Hill.
