Spring Hill, Mill Valley, BVNW head into playoffs with wins

No. 25 Spring Hill 14, No. 13 Louisburg 13

Spring Hill packed its haymaker for the final punch – the final game of the regular season for a Frontier League title and to burst Louisburg’s perfect regular season.

The Broncos (7-1) came back for a 14-13 win against previously undefeated Louisburg, the No. 1 team in Class 4A and atop the Frontier League standings.

Louisburg (7-1), looked to take a two-score lead when it drove to a first-and-goal at the SHHS 3 at 8:28 in the third period. But the Broncos forced LHS back to the 9 and a Blaise Vohs field goal for a 13-7 margin with 7:10 left in the quarter.

Spring Hill took over at its own 26 with 7:01 to go in the period. The Broncos then went on a 10-play drive, highlighted by a rolling 36-yard pass from junior quarterback Jordan Miller to Maysen Dodson to set the Broncos at the LHS 16. Four plays later, senior tailback Patrick Stumpff took a handoff from three yards out for the game-winning score.

Louisburg will play host to Bishop Miege in the first round of the Kansas Class 4A playoffs, while Spring Hill will entertain Shawnee Heights in the Class 5A playoffs next Friday night.

No. 3 Mill Valley 48, No. 23 Olathe East 17

Mill Valley tuned up for its run at a sixth-straight Kansas Class 5A title with a romp – and a Sunflower League title.

The Jaguars, No. 3 in the 810 Varsity Top 25 and five-time defending Kansas Class 5A state champions, wrapped the Sunflower League title with a 48-17 laugher against No. 23 Olathe East.

The Hawks (5-3) held a 10-7 lead to start the second quarter, but touchdowns by Reggie Reece and a 20-yard touchdown strike from Connor Bohon to Blake Jay right before intermission helped Mill Valley to a 20-10 halftime lead.

Two more Bohon touchdowns  as well as scores from Max Piva and Holden Applebee blew the game open for the Jaguars, who will open their title defense against Harmon next Friday night.

Olathe East will host Olathe North in the opening round of the Kansas Class 6A playoffs next Friday.

Blue Valley Northwest 40, Blue Valley Southwest 13

With two teams needing wins before the postseason, Blue Valley Northwest regained its swagger on Friday night.

The Huskies (5-3) coasted 40-13 on Friday night over Blue Valley Southwest to snap a three-game skid.

Trevor Garlington snagged two touchdown passes – including an 81-yarder – and picked off a pass for the Huskies. Senior Ford Bevins threw for two touchdown strikes – to junior Logan Chandler as well as Garlington, and ran for a three-yard score as well.

Blue Valley Northwest will host Shawnee Mission North in the first round of the Kansas Class 6A playoffs next Friday night, while Blue Valley Southwest will travel to Basehor-Linwood.
