The first of five 810 Varsity Showcases tips off the year with a bang.

The event, No. 36 in the years of day-long events, will be held at Oak Park High School on Saturday, Dec 7 and feature numerous girls and boys Top 25 battles, highlighted by No. 1 Shawnee Mission Northwest vs No. 2 Oak Park.

Both the Cougars, who won the Kansas Class 6A state title a year ago, and Northmen, the top area Missouri team, return most of their teams from last year.

"This was a game many wanted to see last season, and almost happened, and are definitely glad to have it this year," stated 810 Varsity's Chad Rader. "And to start off the season just brings the excitement to the season for not just the teams, but the city, even higher."

The two face at 8 pm, right after another Top 25 matchup in No. 9 Olathe North and No. 21 Park Hill.

The girls matchups pit Raytown vs Shawnee Mission Northwest, and Staley vs Olathe North.

"It's a great event to come, stay warm, and watch great basketball," Rader added.

The games will feature the shot clock, as with MSHSAA rules allowing for the shot clock to be used in such events with 4+ games.
