The first 810 Varsity showcase of 2024-25 featured No. 1 vs No. 2 in the city, and No. 1 in MO vs No. 1 in Kansas.

The second now features No. 1 in Kansas Class 6A with Shawnee Mission Northwest vs No. 1 in Oklahoma Class 3A, Millwood.

The two face off at 8 pm at Shawnee Mission Northwest HS at 8 pm on Saturday.

"We looked to have a tough schedule with our team, and we definitely start off with two talented teams and tough games in the 810 Varsity events," stated Cougars head coach David Birch.

The Cougars rebounded from a season-opening lopsided loss against Oak Park in 810 Varsity Showcase 37 by winning a tough Husky Hoops Invitational tournament last weekend. 

The Falcons (3-1) are ranked No. 1 in Oklahoma 3A and feature a strong set of guards.

Meanwhile, the rest of the event's lineup features four defending Kansas state champions, including Shawnee Mission South (6A, girls), Bishop Miege (4A, girls) and McPherson (4A, boys).

Shawnee Mission South, defending Class 6A champs, lead off the day against perennially tough Hayden, making the trip from Topeka.

A pair of boys games follows: Blue Valley Northwest vs Center and Olathe South vs St. Michael, both intriguing matchups of top Kansas Class 6A teams against talented smaller class Missouri squads.

The cross-state rivalry of Bishop Miege vs McPherson follows - first with the defending Class 4A girls in the Stags vs McPherson, the defending state champion Bullpup boys against Miege.

The Cougars wrap the night with both the girls and boys in the Metro's top 5. The girls face Park Hill, while the boys conclude the night against the Falcons from Oklahoma.

"It's a great slate of action if people want to stay warm and watch basketball, especially after the Chiefs game - or even watching the game while at the games," 810 Varsity's Chad Rader said.
