Summit Christian 55, Grandview 44
Summit Christian’s dynamic duo led the Eagles to the Jewell Classic semifinals on Friday.
Senior Max Reiger fired in a game-high 27 points, while sophomore Mike Thomas III scored 24 points to account for all but four points in the Eagles’ 55-44 win over Grandview in the first round of the Jewell Classic’s Nelson Division.
Summit Christian will take on Park Hill at 9 pm on Sunday. Grandview will face Grain Valley on Sunday at 9 am in the consolation bracket.
Park Hill 63, Grain Valley 55
The Trojans returned to the Jewell Classic semifinals with a 63-55 win over Grain Valley in the Nelson Division on Friday.
Park Hill, which missed out on the semis last year, were led by Leo Gayman’s 25 points – including five three-pointers from the 6-foot-5 senior – and 18 from fellow senior Cam Jones.
The Eagles were led by Eli Herbert’s 26 points, as the junior canned four three’s to surpass the school career mark.
The Trojans, ranked No. 12 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, improved to 6-2 and will take on Summit Christian at 9 pm on Sunday.
KIPP 59, Truman 57
KIPP Legacy made its debut in the Jewell Classic a good one.
The Gators nipped Truman, 59-57, to advance to the semifinals of the Nelson Division on Friday.
Sophomore LJ Torrence led KIPP with 16 points, while senior Kenneth Smith added 13 for the Gators (5-4). KIPP trailed Truman, 45-40, entering the final period, but Torrence heated up with eight points in the fourth quarter, while Smith added five, and senior Vince Moss hit two key buckets.
Liberty North 76, KC East Christian 45
The Eagles made Ryan Rippee’s debut as head coach in the Jewell Classic an easy one from the bench.
The first-year coach enjoyed a 76-45 laugher in the Nelson Division’s first round on Friday. The Eagles (6-2) saw 13 players score in the win.
Senior Jimi Oguntuase led the onslaught with 14, while junior Ayden Johnston netted 12.
Liberty North, ranked No. 22 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, will take on KIPP in the semifinals at 7:30 pm on Sunday. KC East Christian will face Truman in the consolation bracket at 10:30 am on Sunday morning.
