In a showdown to likely determine the United Kansas Conference champion, Basehor-Linwood can almost create remove in its trophy case for the trophy.
The Bobcats rallied for a 42-38 thrilling win at De Soto between the top two teams in the UKC. Basehor-Linwood, ranked No. 22 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, improved to 4-0 with the win, atop the league standings.
Basehor-Linwood took a last-minute drive inside the red zone, then facing a fourth down at the DHS 33, quarterback Carson Dixon connected a pass to the DHS 18. Then a personal foul moved the Bobcats to the DHS 9 with :24 left. Dixon then threw a lob to the left side of the end zone to a wide open Nash Morrison for the game-winning touchdown with :13 left, and a 42-38 lead after the extra point.
Morrison finished with 154 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the game. Morrison hauled in touchdown receptions of 36 and 34 yards from Dixon in the first half, then an 18-yard scoring strike in third for a 35-24 lead as the quarter ended.
But De Soto (3-1) rolled back as Jackson Whiddon caught a pass over the middle, and jetted to the right sideline for a 50-yard reception to the BL 9 on the first play of the final period. Two plays later, junior Will Morton took a pitch left into the end zone for a 35-31 margin with 10:59 left.
After a Bobcats punt, De Soto started a drive from its own 13 with 7:21 left. Two plays later from the 19, Morton took a pitch right 79 yards to the BL 2. Three plays later, senior slot receiver Christian Dickinson rushed in a two-yard touchdown and DHS first and only lead at 38-35 with 4:56 left.
De Soto actually held the Bobcats on downs and took over at midfield with 3:50 left, but were held and Basehor-Linwood took over at its own 28 for the game-winning drive with 2:29 left.
Basehor-Linwood hosts Topeka West next Friday, while De Soto travels to Shawnee Heights.
