Liberty needed a last-minute drive to hold off upset-minded Park Hill, 31-28, on Friday night.
The Blue Jays, No. 3 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, trailed No. 23 Park Hill, 28-24 after Trojans quarterback Zane Thomas connected with Braylon Agee for their third touchdown connection of the night. The 16-yard strike put Park Hill up, 28-24, with 6:13 left.
But Liberty (6-0) engineered a drive downfield, capped by quarterback Connor Hatfield hitting Logan Sutton for a 28-yard touchdown with 1:23 left.
Liberty looked in good position opening the half with a pick-six 71-yard touchdown by Deacon Price for a 24-14 LHS lead with 8:10 left in the third quarter. But Park Hill's Kaiden Irving opened the final period with a one-yard touchdown run for a 24-21 deficit.
Thomas led Park Hill with 264 passing yards and three touchdowns, all to Agee who finished with 52 receiving yards. Dante Dixon snagged 11 receptions for 112 yards.
Hatfield threw for 117 yards and the game-winning score, as well as rushing for 124 yards and a touchdown. Colt Nolin paced all rushers with 149 yards and a score.
Liberty will travel to No. 4 Blue Springs South next Friday, while Park Hill hikes to St. Joe Central.
