How could Olathe West back up its historical win over Gardner-Edgerton last week?
A win over Mill Valley would do for the Owls.
Olathe West, ranked No. 20 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, opened the floodgates at No. 8 Mill Valley for a 52-36 win on Friday night. The victory follows the Owls first-ever win against Gardner-Edgerton last week, 49-21
“A lot of people doubted us coming into this game, but we stuck with the guys in our locker room, and we ended up getting the win,” senior quarterback Brady Hale stated.
Hale and fellow senior Jack Foland helped Olathe West to a 17-7 halftime lead with rushing touchdowns. Foland finished with 12 rushes for 147 yards, as the Owls racked up 352 rushing yards in the game.
Both teams opened the second half with touchdowns for a 24-14 margin, but then Cash Warren darted for 73 yards on a screen pass for a 31-14 lead with 3:10 left in the third. Warren ended with 67 rushing yards, 80 receiving yards and two scores on the night.
With 6:21 left in the game, Hale completed a 25-yard pass to junior Cabe Roberson for a 38-14 cushion. Hale finished with 11-of-19 passing for 207 yards in the contest.
“I give all the credit to the O-line, they set the tone up front, giving me the time and space to create those explosive plays that won us the game,” said Hale.
The Jags weren’t done, though, as senior Blake Jay responded with a touchdown of his own, and from there it went back and forth with each team scoring on their next two possessions, but it proved to be too little too late for Mill Valley as they were not able to contain the Owl offense.
Olathe West (5-1) will host Shawnee Mission East, while Mill Valley (4-2) will travel to Olathe Northwest.
