Rockhurst 55, Lee’s Summit 49
Rockhurst held off a Lee’s Summit comeback, and topped the Tigers, 55-49, on Friday night.
The Hawklets built a 13-point early, which held through halftime at 32-19. Elijah Curtis paced Rockhurst with eight first-half points, including two three-pointers.
But Lee’s Summit chipped away at the lead, behind a team-high 15 points by junior Keller Daugherty. Mekhi McNeil also added 11 points for the Tigers, including 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. For the game, Lee’s Summit canned 14-of-17 at the charity stripe.
However, Rockhurst, which improved to 2-0 with the victory, fended off LSHS. Kevin Sullivan led the Hawklets with 13 points, while fellow senior Cohen Robinson added 12. Curtis and Carson Green each chipped in 10 points apiece.
Both teams will play next week in the tournament at Blue Valley.
Oak Park 69, Staley 67
One of the Metro’s fiercest rivalries added another chapter this weekend.
Oak Park held off Staley, 69-67, at OPHS on Friday night. Josh Kori led all scorers with 21 points for the Northmen.
The game was another tight one with Oak Park leading, 35-34, at halftime, but Staley regained the lead back and forth with a 54-52 margin after the third quarter.
Landon VanFelt added 15 points for Oak Park, while Adam Tanner chipped in 12.
MICDS 44, St. Teresa’s 42
St. Teresa’s made its first showcase worth it for the spectators.
The Stars, starting its own showcase this year, lost on Friday night to MICDS, 44-42. Addi Moylan canned five three-pointers for a team-high 19 points against the Rams.
STA trailed just 24-23 at half in a nip-and-tuck contest, but the visitors from the St. Louis area kept the lead, including a 32-28 margin after the third period.
Freshman Aleyiah Harris added 11 points for the Stars.
