The 46th Annual William Jewell Holiday Classic boys high school basketball tournament took place at William Jewell College in Liberty. Here’s a look at some highlights from championship games on Tuesday night:
Holley Division
Blue Springs South 55, Battle 53
Blue Springs South ended Battle’s quest for a three-peat in the Jewell Classic, and now will be on their own ahead.
The Jaguars took home the Holley Division title for the second straight season, 55-53, over Battle on Tuesday night. Blayne Marshall led the way with a team-high 14 points and 13 rebounds en route to being named the MVP of the Holley Division. Maksim Hymiller added 11 points in the effort.
Brandon Rooks Jr. paced Battle with 20 points.
Third Place: Park Hill 64, Pembroke Hill 57
Patterson Division
Oak Park 59, Liberty North 37
Oak Park rolled to the Patterson Division title despite its closest margin of the tourney – a mere 22 points. The Northmen won their three games by an average of 38 points, including its 59-37 win over Liberty North in the title game on Tuesday night.
Adam Tanner earned MVP of the division, leading Oak Park with 18 points against the Eagles. Jakaya Duff netted 13 points, while Landon Vanpelt added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Josh Kori tallied 10 points and eight caroms up front for the Northmen.
Aedyn Williams scored 14 points for Liberty North.
Third-place: Grandview 62, Center 48 (OT)
Nelson Division
Liberty 65, Blue Springs 59
Liberty enjoyed the home cooking at nearby William Jewell for its first tourney title since 2021 with a 65-59 win over Blue Springs. Luke Maher and Rocco Montuori each scored a team-high 15 points, while Montouri added nine assists. Ethan Anderson chipped in 11 points en route to being named the Nelson Division MVP.
Jacob Shlutow racked up 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.
