Below are recaps of the boys contests at 810 Varsity Showcase 42, held Saturday, January 3 at Blue Valley North.

Blue Valley North 67, Wichita Heights 63

A battle of two Kansas Class 6A top 10 programs lived up to the hype in the finale of 810 Varsity Showcase 42.

Jackson Reis hit a tie-breaking three-pointer from the left corner with 3.9 seconds to boost No. 10 Blue Valley North to a 67-63 win over No. 4 Wichita Heights.

The Mustangs jumped out to a hot start for a 31-23 halftime lead, behind eight of Will Davis’ 18 points. But the Falcons turned up the tempo and surged for a 29-10 run in the third period for a 50-41 lead. Jordan and Jalihn Timmons combined for 21 points in the quarter. Jalihn Timmons paced all scorers with 24, while Jordan Timmons added 17.

But Blue Valley North rallied back, as Davis got going again with eight points, and Colton Nichols added seven during the run.

Then with the score tied 63-63, Davis dribbled atop the key, found Reis in the left corner who promptly launched and drained the go-ahead three-pointer. On the ensuing Heights possession, Nichols stole the ball at midcourt, and was fouled in the final second to seal the game.

“I missed a couple down the stretch, so I give this to my teammates and coach to have confidence in me,” Reis said, who finished with a team-high 19 points.

Shawnee Mission South 56, Lee’s Summit 51

The No. 1 team in Kansas Class 6A got every bit it wanted and more to start off 2026.

Shawnee Mission South held off Lee’s Summit, 56-51, on Saturday at 810 Varsity Showcase 42.

“That was a very good team that played physical and gave us trouble, and we hadn't had trouble in our first five games,” Raiders head coach Brett McFall stated. “We weren't very good at the beginning, but then we adjusted, and that was good to see.”

After a slow first quarter, the Raiders were able to come back and take a 27-26 lead at halftime. South was able to hold a 43-38 edge after the third quarter, behind seven Ben Allen points in the period.

But the Tigers opened the final stanza on an 8-0 run, behind senior Blake Meyers canning a three-pointer, then a conventional and-one.

Both teams were tied at 48-48 at 2:17, but then Ben Allen hit all of his eight free throws down the stretch for the final margin. Allen ended with a game-high 21 points.

“Our coach has us shoot 50 free throws a day, so anyone on this team could’ve done it. It just happened to be me at the line,” said Allen. “I’m just thankful to be in that situation, facing a good team and having the chance to put the game away.”

Blue Valley West 54, Park Hill 44

Blue Valley West, No. 7 in Kansas Class 6A, overcame an early deficit to storm past Park Hill, 54-44.

The Trojans held a 26-18 lead in the first half, but BV West fought back and took a 44-43 lead on a Cade Wysong turnaround on the baseline with 4:36 left. Then a Wysong three-pointer from the top of the key took a fortuitous bounce up and back down for a 47-43 margin. A Max Orr steal and layup boosted the cushion to 49-43 with 2:18 left.

“In the first half, we didn’t play well but we really tightened up our defense in the second half, took away their driving lanes and hit some shots,” Wysong said. “We hang our hat on grittiness and toughness, and that’s what we started to do.”

Orr paced the Jaguars with 14, while Wysong finished with 11. Rylan Ferrin led Park Hill with 11 points

Blue Valley Northwest 61, Barstow 35

The Huskies sputtered early, but stomped on the gas pedal for a 61-35 romp over Barstow.

BV Northwest, ranked No. 9 in Kansas Class 6A, held a 10-6 edge after the first quarter, but warmed up for a 21-10 halftime edge. Then the Huskies surged for a 21-9 run in the third period to blow open the game, 42-19.

“It was good to have a game after the break. We felt some of that early, but we started figuring out their zone and attacking in the second half,” stated Northwest head coach Aaron Ihm.

Elijah Bwami led the Huskies with 15, while Angelo Gray netted a game-high 16 points for Barstow.
