810 Varsity Showcase 43 will be short, but memorable this Saturday.
The event leads off with the Special Olympics game, concluding the Piper high school Special Olympics clinic earlier in the day.
"I asked Chad (Rader) if he would have this as a part of the event, and he said yes," Piper head coach Steve Wallace said. "We've done Special Olympics clinics in the past. Its memorable and the players talk about it later in the season. Once I reached out to Special Olympics, they were even more excited than we were."
A pair of games follows with evenly matched games in Blue Springs vs Blue Valley West on the boys side, and Piper vs Blue Valley Northwest on the girls.
The nightcap boasts two of the Metro's top programs in Oak Park - the Missouri Class 6 defending champions - and Piper, which has finished third and second in Kansas Class 5A the last two years.
"It will be a lot of fun in the games, and the finale will be a tough test for Piper, but the 810 Varsity events can have some magic in them too," said Rader.
