After 18 years as Platte County’s head football coach and back-to-back Missouri Class 5 state championships, Bill Utz has retired from the Pirates helm and will be stepping across the state line.
Utz, the 2025 and 2024 Missouri Class 5 state Coach of the Year, compiled a 158-62 record with Platte County. The Pirates went undefeated in the last two years at 14-0 each season, taking the Class 5 state championship in 2024 and 2025.
Per sources, Utz will be named the Lansing head football coach, pending board approval. The Lions were guided by Rick Pollard from 2021-2025, going 16-23 in the tenure.
Additionally, Platte County defensive coordinator Eric Mitchell also will follow Utz to Lansing's staff.
