If you buried your nose in the time of possession, you might've thought there'd be an upset of Smithville over Park Hill - at least through the first half. Park Hill only had the ball 5 minutes through two quarters. But three consecutive special teams gaffes by Smithville erased a 6-0 lead on two first quarter field goals and set up three touchdown drives by the Trojans.
All three turnovers were from the kicking game and set up TD drives of 6 yards, 1 yard, and 29 yards and started a run of 35 unanswered points.
Sophomore QB Billy Maples threw for two touchdowns and 57 yards - both to DJ Johnson. Dorian Clayton was the leading rusher with 57 yards and two scores on 10 carries.
Smithville falls to 1-1 as new head coach Jason Ambrosen takes his first career loss. The Trojans improve to 1-1 and head to Belton next week.
