The Bulldogs rolled to take another league title

Kearney made senior night one to remember.

The No. 12 Bulldogs hosted No.24 Belton for Senior Night in Kearney on Friday night. Kearney rolled, 48-7 and effectively sealed the Suburban Small 6 league title with only one week to play.

The Bulldogs (7-1) entered winning four in a row by an average of 46 points. The Pirates were riding the wave of a 54-51 overtime victory over Raytown South the previous week.

It was all Kearney as quarterback Logan Hinck led the way with 17 rushes, 100 yards and two scores on the ground. He also threw for 213 yards on 10-of-12 passing. Wearing orange tape on his cleats in honor of his aunt's battle with leukemia, he gave all the credit to his offensive line.

"The O-line opened big holes for us and made it possible for us to move the ball," Hinck stated.

"Logan is a special kid," Kearney coach Greg Jones said. "He does things right and makes the offense click. He's an athlete, when the lights are on the special comes out."

The Kearney defense keyed on stopping the Belton run. "[Coming in tonight] we were gonna do one thing, and that was stop [Belton RB] Zach [Willis]," Jones said "the defense bought in and we were able to get it done."

Kearney moves on to face Grandview next week in the season finale. The Bulldogs are focused on winning the title outright this year.

"We don't want to share the title this year!" Greg Jones told his players at midfield, and they heartily agreed.
