Blue Springs South rolled to the Class 6 final, 41-17

Jags to Face CBC, Friday, Nov. 27 at 7:30 pm

Friday's Class 6 state football semifinal between Blue Springs South and host Kirkwood was a battle of big plays.

Most of those big plays went in favor of Blue Springs South, which built a big lead on the way to a 41-17 victory.

“They're a great team and we knew coming into this game it wasn't going to be easy,” Jaguars senior wideout Briley Moore-McKinney said. “Our defense stepped up and played absolutely amazing and our offense stepped up and put points on the board. I couldn't be more proud of this team.”

Blue Springs South (13-0, No. 3 in state media rankings) advanced to the Class 6 championship game against CBC (13-0) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at Edward Jones Dome.

The Jaguars scored on their first offensive play when senior running back Adam Cofield ran 62 yards for a touchdown to make it 6-0 with 10 minutes, 12 seconds, left in the first quarter.

Later in the first, the Jags returned to the big play magic as junior Jerome Hawkins ripped off a 55-yard run with 4:18 left in the first quarter to make it 13-0 for South.

“I think we always go in trying to run it,” Blue Springs South coach Greg Oder said. “Our linemen did a great job. They are a great football team over there.”

Not to be outdone, Kirkwood (10-2, No. 9 in state rankings) nearly benefited from a big play of its own.

Pioneers senior running back Jamahl Scott gashed South for 62 yards to set up the Pioneers with a short field late in the first quarter. A short field goal attempt by Ryan Higgenbotham was tipped, however, and the ball went wide right to end the drive.
