Season Preview: No. 22 Kearney

Good things come to those who wait, and Kearney feels that’s the case with the basketball program under Zane Tanner.

After many successful years at West Platte, Tanner underwent his first season as head coach at KHS. The Bulldogs started just 7-11 for the year, but then finished strong at 7-3 for a 14-14 mark.

This year, the Bulldogs return a solid cast, with a balanced trio of senior starters in guard Logan Hinck (6-foot-0), forward Ryan Hoffman (6-foot-3) and center Cameron Miller. The 6-foot-7 senior averaged 10 ppg and 7 rebounds en route to being named all-conference and all-district last year.

“Cameron has high energy and is very good defender with shot blocking ability,” Tanner stated. “We have good size and should be a good rebounding team.”

Now that the Bulldogs have a year under the belt with Tanner at the helm, Kearney should be better suited coming out of the gates. That is, once the Class 4 state champs morph from a long football season into basketball form.

“We are playing even faster this year,” Tanner stated. “We have several guys that can score. Once everyone gets into basketball shape and we get reps, I think we will flow on offense.”
