The all-810 Varsity preseason team is out!

Mitchell Ballock, Eudora

SG, Junior
The 6-foot-5 junior helped lead the Cardinals to the Kansas Class 4A championship in his freshman year. Ballock made national waves when he won the Best Shooter award at the initial Stephen Curry Select Camp in 2014. Rated as one of the top guard for the 2017 class, Ballock underwent season-ending surgery this past fall and will miss the 2015-16 season.

Bol Bol, Bishop Miege

C, Sophomore

The 6-foot-10 sophomore is rated by Rivals as the No. 10 overall prospect for the 2018 class. Bol brings a solid game inside and outside as he continues to grow at the varsity level.

Jacob Gilyard, Barstow

PG, Junior
The junior point guard helped lead the Knights to the Missouri Class 3 state title last year, and has already received Division I offers, including UAB.

CJ Hill, SM South

PG, Senior
The point guard netted 13 ppg with four assists as a junior for the Raiders. The 6-foot senior signed with Division II Hillsdale (Michigan), and was an all-Sunflower League and honorable mention Class 6A selection in 2014-15.

Jeriah Horne, Barstow

PF, Senior
One of the favorites for the DiRenna Award this season, Horne committed to Nebraska this past fall. The 6-foot-7 senior also helped lead the Knights to the Missouri Class 3 title in 2015, with over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Michael Hughes, Liberty North

PF, Senior
Hughes ranks as one of the area’s top post players, averaging 14.4 points, 12.0 rebounds and a ridiculous 4.7 blocks per game.
“On the court, he has been as dominating as a high school player can be in stretches,” touted Liberty North coach Chris McCabe. “I truly believe that his best basketball is ahead of him and he has the opportunity to shine this year and once he arrives on campus at Akron.”

Cameron Hunter, Olathe East

G, Senior
The 6-foot-2 senior helped the Hawks to a Kansas Class 6A third-place finish with 8.2 ppg and 5.2 assists as a junior.

Darien Jackson, BV Northwest

G, Junior
One of the top guards in the city, Jackson leads the Huskies high-paced attack on both sides.  The 6-foot-1 junior already has garnered multiple Division I offers and also has looks by Kansas State, Iowa and others.

Tyree King, Blue Springs

G, Junior
King should improve upon last year’s numbers, when he averaged over 12 ppg as just a sophomore in helping the Wildcats to an 18-8 record and resurgence in the program.

Isaac McCullough, Ottawa

G, Junior
The 6-foot-4 junior guard posted averages of 17.1 ppg and 5.2 rebounds in 2014-15. A Class 4A first-team selection as a sophomore, McCullough has received interest from the like of Davidson, Gonzaga and other Division I programs.

Joseph Pleasant, BV Northwest

F, Sophomore
As a freshman, Pleasant averaged 7.2 ppg and 5.1 rebounds, and already has interest of several Division I schools. He tossed in 20 points in the Huskies romp of Bishop Miege in December.
“He has probably improved more than anyone I have ever seen,” said assistant coach Zach Harsch. “He has improved his shot, post moves, and athletic ability.”

Justin Roberts, Lawrence

G, Senior
Roberts sat out last year after suffering a season-ending ACL injury, but has rebounded with scoring nights of 18 and 25 to open the season. Roberts has received interests from Drake, UMKC and others.

KJ Robinson, Blue Springs South

PG, Senior
Robinson makes the Jaguars go, and averaged 17 ppg and 3.2 assists as a junior, even with Kevin Puryear on the floor. The 6-foot guard will be one of the top guards in the city, and has already signed with Division I Nebraska-Omaha after helping BSS to the Missouri Class 5 state title in 2015.

“KJ has great leadership qualities,” stated Blue Springs South head coach Jimmy Cain. “He makes his teammates better by filling them with confidence. He’s always been strong and physical, but he’s really become stronger leading up to this season. He’s very physical and has the entire package that you look for in a point guard.”

RJ Smith, Olathe North

G, Senior
Smith helped pace the Eagles to a 17-6 record and a berth in the Kansas Class 6A tourney last year. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound guard averaged 14.6 ppg along with 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals as a junior, and has already committed to Oral Roberts.

Blake Spellman, Lee's Summit

PG, Senior
As a junior, Spellman tossed in 17 ppg with 4.2 assists for the Tigers, who won 21 games in 2014-15. The 6-foot point guard signed with Division I Northern Kentucky this past offseason.
“Blake is obviously highly skilled but that is only part of being a top point guard,” stated LSHS head coach Blake Little. “What he has worked on over the last year or so is being a vocal leader and energy giver all the time. It’s not something has come easy to him but he has made tremendous progress and the team has really responded to him.”

Josiah Talbert, Olathe East

PF, Senior
Talbert averaged 11.1 ppg, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks, also showing outside range with 31 three’s at a 39% clip. The 6-foot-9 senior signed with Division I Liberty.

Marcus Weathers, SM North

SF, Senior

Michael Weathers, SM North

PG, Senior
As juniors, the Weathers led the Indians to the Kansas Class 6A third-place game. Michael, a 6-foot-1 point guard, and Marcus, a 6-foot-4 small forward, should boost Shawnee Mission North towards another run to state.

Ryan Welty, Park Hill South

PF, Senior
The leader of the Panthers, Welty led PHS to the Missouri Class 5 final, with a stunner over Chaminade in the semis. The 6-foot-7 forward posted 19.5 ppg and 7.8 rebounds while being named first-team all-state. Welty figures to be among a handful for the DiRenna Award.
“Ryan has been the rock to our program,” Park Hill South head coach Dan Parra touted. “He’s a quiet leader that never misses practice.  He sets the tone every practice by playing hard and never taking a play off. With our team being so inexperienced we are going to rely on him more than ever.  When things get sped up in practices or games Ryan will be the one to calm everyone down.”
