Blue Springs tops rival Jaguars

If there was ever a game Blue Springs wanted more than the rest, this was the one.

The Wildcats boys basketball squad lost its last two games against crosstown rival Blue Springs South by double digits.

They wanted this one bad. Really bad.

While playing aggressive basketball the entire night, Blue Springs put together a solid 32 minutes. The Wildcats had a huge third quarter in which they outscored the Jaguars 21-6, helping it get revenge with a 74-59 victory Friday at Blue Springs South.

Once the final horn sounded, RJ Lawrence leaped into a teammate's arms. Korey Wilson jumped and threw an emphatic fist pump. The Wildcats jumped and yelled and slapped the lockers in the visitor's locker room after the game. Every player – junior varsity and varsity – was greeted by a large student section as each player was loudly cheered while exiting the locker room hallway.

One thing was apparent – this win was something to get excited about for the Wildcats, who improved to 14-7 overall and 3-3 in the Suburban Big Six Conference.

It was especially one to cheer about for senior forward Justin Hall. He missed the last game against South (14-7, 2-4) due to traveling to Mobile, Alabama, to watch his brother and NFL prospect Deiondre' Hall play in the Senior Bowl football game in late January.

“We were waiting for this moment to get them back for the last one,” Hall said. “To come back to the team and get this W is great.”
