Patriots hire Liberty North assistant

For the past 15 years, Charlie Pugh has called Liberty home.

He’ll have a new address starting next school year. Pugh has accepted the head coaching position at Truman High School in Independence and awaits only final board approval.

“This community has been my life the last 15 years,” Pugh said of his time with Liberty Public Schools. “Everyone from the kids and the parents to the coaches and educators I’ve had the chance to work with, they have all been great.

“... It’s tough because you invest so much into these kids, and they invest so much into you. There’s a very special relationship there, and it’s hard to say goodbye.”

Pugh has spent the past six seasons as an assistant coach at Liberty North High School, several on the defensive side of the football before serving as offensive coordinator the past two years. Before that, Pugh worked as an assistant football coach across town at Liberty High.
