Eagles land Kearney head coach

Jones: 2 State Titles, 119-23 at KHS

Liberty North High School has announced that longtime Kearney High School coach Greg Jones has been named the second head varsity football coach in program history.

Jones is scheduled to be introduced to the Liberty North High School community Tuesday morning, for an 8:30 a.m. press conference in the school’s Theatre.

Jones comes to LNHS from Kearney (MO) High School, where he guided the Bulldogs to an impressive 119-23 record over the course of his 11 seasons at the helm.  During his tenure, Kearney won 2 state championships, 9 district championships, and 6 conference titles.

Prior to coming to Kearney, Jones had successful head coaching stints at Odessa (MO) High School, Van Buren (AR) High School, Park Hill (MO) High School, and Park Hill South (MO) High School. He has an overall head coaching record of 173-53.

“Coach Jones stood out as the perfect coach to lead Liberty North,” said LNHS Athletic Director Bob Kernell.   “He has had great success at Kearney and the other programs he has lead.  His vision and what he will bring to our program is very exciting.  Greg’s contagious positive attitude with his approach to coaching football and weight training will make a huge impact on the school community and Liberty North Football.”

In addition to his impressive head football coaching resume, Jones has also helped build solid weight lifting programs.  While at Kearney, his weight lifting team competed and won 7 out of 10 national championships held in Oklahoma City.

A graduate of Northwest Missouri State University (1991), Jones holds a Master of Science in Education from NWMSU (1993), and an Ed Specialist from William Woods University (2012).

Jones will replace Ken Clemens, who resigned from his position last month.
