Smithville, GV added, changes in leagues ahead

The Suburban Leagues underwent their two-year realignment. Added to the Suburban Leagues are Grain Valley (formerly Missouri River Valley West) and Smithville (Midland Empire).

The realignment in the Surburban Leagues does not affect state classification. Under the new MSHSAA by-laws, classification and district assignment will not be released until the second week of each season.  State class and district assignment will 100% be based on enrollment and the number of schools participating in the particular sport.

Below are the leagues and any additions in notes:

Surburban Gold
Blue Springs
Blue Springs South
Lee's Summit North
Lee's Summit West
Park Hill
Raymore-Peculiar
Note: The league drops to six schools for the next two-year cycle, with Lee's Summit dropping down

Suburban Red
Lee's Summit
Liberty
Liberty North
Park Hill South
St. Joseph Central
Staley
Truman
Note: The league gets tougher with the addition of Staley moving up, and Lee's Summit into the league.

Suburban White
Belton
Fort Osage
North Kansas City
Oak Park
Raytown
Ruskin
William Chrisman
Note: The league expands to seven schools as Staley departs, but Raytown and Belton are added.

Suburban Blue
Grain Valley
Grandview
Kearney
Platte County
Raytown South
Smithville
Winnetonka
Note: The league expands to seven schools. Also, the battle of 92 (Highway) gets a new wrinkle as Smithville is now a regular on the schedule, in between Platte County and Kearney.
